Piedmont YWCA 1908
This project was previously known as Project 007.
The Piedmont YWCA was built by the Piedmont Manufacturing Company in 1908 as a home for the single women working at the mill. It was initially located on Main Street and was equipped with a kitchen, a large downstairs sitting room, a library, and upstairs sleeping rooms. The structure will now be used as a museum to house artifacts, research material, and stories about Piedmont and as the home of the Piedmont Historical Preservation Society.
This project is significant for the upcoming restoration of downtown Piedmont. The museum is working to enlarge the collection of mill-related documents and artifacts. The goal is to digitize the records and publish the catalog online for researchers across the country. Another goal is to serve school student groups and educators as they delve into local history topics. The Society has garnered community and individual support for this project.
